Tokyo Streetworks 2005 update.
During a visit to Tokyo in June 2005 I visited the site of Jimbocho, which had originally been installed in 2001 on a notice board in a side alley off the main street of Yasukuni-dori. It had been noticed and re-photographed by Wade White in 2004. I wondered if it was still in place. Although the piece was not on display on the side of the building, in a strange confluence of circumstances I found it lying on the pavement. When had it dropped from the wall? Notices had been posted on the old display case, so someone had intervened at some point. Why was the piece still near the location? Jimbocho was still near its original resting place, four years later. I carefully collected Jimbocho and took it back to my hotel and renovated it - it had aged more beautifully than I could have expected. I added commentary to the text on the back and returned it to the original site and installed it again on the notice board. It looked elegantly at home. I received word from a student a few months later that Jimbocho was no longer there.
